Childcare Providers
Caring for those who help raise the next generation.
This group is honored each February. The $56 New Patient Special is available to new patients year-round — see who's featured this month.
Childcare is one of the most physical jobs nobody calls physical. A provider might lift a toddler eighty times before lunch, sit cross-legged on the floor for circle time, and finish the day carrying two kids and a diaper bag to the door.
The lifting is rarely done with good mechanics, because a two-year-old does not wait for you to square your hips. Over years, that adds up in the low back, the wrists, and the shoulders.
February is for the people helping raise West Michigan's youngest — the ones who make it possible for everyone else to go to work.

What the work does
Why this job shows up in your spine.
Every profession loads the body a specific way. Here's what we see most in this group.
Eighty lifts a day
Repeated bending and lifting from awkward angles is the single most common cause of low back complaints we see.
Floor time
Kneeling, sitting, and twisting at kid-height loads the hips and pelvis in ways adult furniture never does.
Carrying on one hip
Holding a child on the same side all day pulls the pelvis and shoulder out of level.
Conditions we treat
What we most often help with in this group.
Low Back Pain
Low back pain is the single most common reason people walk into our clinics, and it's also the most commonly mistreated. Rest and ibuprofen quiet the symptom for a few days, but if a joint isn't moving or a disc is loaded unevenly, the pain keeps coming back.

Hip Pain & Alignment
Hip pain is frequently misattributed. True hip joint pain sits in the groin, outer hip pain is usually tendon or bursa, and deep buttock pain is often the SI joint or the low back referring down. Getting the source right is the whole game.

Shoulder Pain & Rotator Cuff
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which means it depends on muscle control rather than bone structure for stability. When the rotator cuff or the shoulder blade stops doing its job, tendons get pinched under the bone above them — and reaching overhead becomes a project.

Wrist & Hand Pain
Your wrist is eight small bones that need to glide against each other. When a few of them stop moving properly, the tendons crossing the joint take up the slack and become irritated — producing pain that never quite settles with rest.

Questions
Childcare providers: common questions
I run childcare out of my home. Does that count?
Absolutely. Licensed centers, in-home providers, and nannies are all included.
Do you have early appointments before drop-off?
Our Zeeland clinic opens at 7AM on several days. Tell us what you need on the form.
Who qualifies?
Anyone who is part of the community group we're currently featuring. Each month recognizes a different profession or role. Both new patients and existing Back To Health patients from that group are welcome to participate.
What does the visit cost?
New patients in the honored group get our $56 New Patient Special — consultation and exam, digital X-rays if clinically needed, and your report of findings. That's it. No deposit, no hidden fees, and nothing due before you arrive.
Is there a deposit?
No. There is no deposit and no prepayment. You pay $56 at the clinic on the day of your visit.
Can I nominate someone?
Yes — and we love when people do. Use the Nominate Someone form to tell us about a coworker, friend, or family member who deserves to be recognized. We'll reach out gently and let them decide if it's right for them.
Can I nominate myself?
Absolutely. If you're part of the group we're currently honoring, just complete the reservation form.
How do I reserve a spot?
Complete the short reservation form and choose the clinic closest to you. You'll be sent straight to that clinic's online scheduling page to pick your time, and our team will confirm.
