Hip Pain Treatment in Zeeland, Portage & Muskegon
Groin, outer hip or deep buttock pain? We sort out whether it's the hip joint, the SI joint or the low back — then treat what's actually driving it.
Hip pain is frequently misattributed. True hip joint pain sits in the groin, outer hip pain is usually tendon or bursa, and deep buttock pain is often the SI joint or the low back referring down. Getting the source right is the whole game.
Symptoms we hear about
- Groin pain and stiffness rotating the leg or getting out of a car
- Pain on the outside of the hip, especially lying on that side
- Deep buttock ache with sitting or climbing stairs
- Reduced hip rotation compared to the other side
- A clicking or snapping sensation with certain movements
What's usually driving it
The hip joint, pelvis and low back function as one unit. When the SI joint or lumbar spine stops moving well, the hip compensates by moving more, and the tendons and bursa around it get overloaded. Prolonged sitting shortens the hip flexors and weakens the glutes, which changes how the ball sits in the socket every step you take.
How we treat hip pain & alignment
- 01Differential exam separating hip joint, SI joint, bursa/tendon and lumbar referral
- 02Hip, SI joint and lumbar adjusting to restore normal shared motion
- 03Soft tissue release for the hip flexors, glutes, TFL and deep rotators
- 04SoftWave shockwave therapy for chronic gluteal tendon or bursal pain
- 05Glute strengthening and gait retraining to change how the hip loads

FAQ
Hip Pain & Alignment: common questions
Is my hip pain actually arthritis?
Hip arthritis is real and shows a specific pattern of restricted rotation with groin pain. Plenty of "hip arthritis" turns out to be tendon or SI joint pain, which responds much faster to care.
Why does it hurt to lie on that side?
That's usually gluteal tendon or bursal irritation on the outer hip being compressed by your body weight. A pillow under the knee helps while the tissue settles.
Can chiropractic help if I need a replacement?
We can improve surrounding mechanics and pain tolerance, and we're honest when a joint is far enough along that surgery is the right answer.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
No. You can book directly with any of our three clinics in Zeeland, Portage or Norton Shores (Muskegon). If we think you need imaging or another provider, we'll tell you and help coordinate it.
Do you take insurance?
We're in-network with most major plans and we verify your benefits before your first adjustment so there are no surprises. Cash and payment-plan options are available too — see our insurance and payment FAQs.
How soon can I get in?
Most new patients are seen within a few days, not weeks. Book online for the clinic closest to you or call and we'll find the first available exam slot.
