Community Care Initiative · January
Mental Health Professionals
Supporting those who help others heal.
This group is honored each January. The $56 New Patient Special is available to new patients year-round — see who's featured this month.
Therapists and counselors spend their days seated, still, and fully present for someone else's worst week. That combination — long stretches of sitting, held posture, and sustained emotional load — shows up in the body long before anyone calls it a problem.
Across West Michigan, caseloads have not gotten lighter. Between school districts, community mental health, private practice, and hospital behavioral health teams, the people holding our community together rarely get a session of their own.
January is theirs. We start the year by taking care of the people who spend the whole year taking care of everyone else.

What the work does
Why this job shows up in your spine.
Every profession loads the body a specific way. Here's what we see most in this group.
Six sessions of stillness
Hours in the same chair compress the low back and stiffen the hips — the body was not built to hold one shape all day.
Held tension
Emotional load lives in the upper traps and jaw. Most people don't notice until the headaches start.
Notes after hours
Documentation at a laptop adds another two hours of forward head posture to an already long day.
Conditions we treat
What we most often help with in this group.
Stress & Muscle Tension
Stress produces a real, measurable physical pattern: shoulders up, jaw clenched, breathing shallow and high in the chest. Held for months, that pattern stiffens joints and produces pain that no amount of stress management alone will resolve.

Tension Headaches
Tension headaches feel like a band tightening around the head or a vise at the temples. Most people manage them with ibuprofen for years without anyone examining the neck — which is where the pattern almost always starts.

Posture & Tech Neck
Every inch your head drifts forward multiplies the load your neck muscles carry. Spend eight hours a day there and the joints stiffen, the muscles fatigue, and headaches and shoulder pain follow. Posture isn't vanity — it's mechanics.

Low Back Pain
Low back pain is the single most common reason people walk into our clinics, and it's also the most commonly mistreated. Rest and ibuprofen quiet the symptom for a few days, but if a joint isn't moving or a disc is loaded unevenly, the pain keeps coming back.

Questions
Mental health professionals: common questions
I'm not licensed — I'm a behavioral health tech. Do I qualify?
Yes. If your work supports mental or behavioral health in any role — clinical, support, or peer — you're included.
Can I come in on a lunch break?
Usually yes. Tell us your window on the form and we'll aim for an appointment that fits between sessions.
Who qualifies?
Anyone who is part of the community group we're currently featuring. Each month recognizes a different profession or role. Both new patients and existing Back To Health patients from that group are welcome to participate.
What does the visit cost?
New patients in the honored group get our $56 New Patient Special — consultation and exam, digital X-rays if clinically needed, and your report of findings. That's it. No deposit, no hidden fees, and nothing due before you arrive.
Is there a deposit?
No. There is no deposit and no prepayment. You pay $56 at the clinic on the day of your visit.
Can I nominate someone?
Yes — and we love when people do. Use the Nominate Someone form to tell us about a coworker, friend, or family member who deserves to be recognized. We'll reach out gently and let them decide if it's right for them.
Can I nominate myself?
Absolutely. If you're part of the group we're currently honoring, just complete the reservation form.
How do I reserve a spot?
Complete the short reservation form and choose the clinic closest to you. You'll be sent straight to that clinic's online scheduling page to pick your time, and our team will confirm.
