First Responders
Honoring those who answer the call when others need help.
This group is honored each July. The $56 New Patient Special is available to new patients year-round — see who's featured this month.
A duty belt is twenty pounds of asymmetry. Turnout gear and an SCBA add sixty more. A cot lift with a patient on it is a max-effort deadlift performed in a stairwell at 3AM.
First responders take more spinal load in a career than almost any profession we treat — and then sit in a vehicle for the rest of the shift.
July is for the people who run toward it.

What the work does
Why this job shows up in your spine.
Every profession loads the body a specific way. Here's what we see most in this group.
Duty belt & vest
Uneven weight around the hips changes how you sit, stand, and walk for an entire shift.
Cot and gear lifts
Heavy, unpredictable loads lifted in bad positions — the definition of a disc-risk movement.
Vehicle hours
A patrol seat with a belt and radio underneath you is a guaranteed pelvic tilt.
Conditions we treat
What we most often help with in this group.
Low Back Pain
Low back pain is the single most common reason people walk into our clinics, and it's also the most commonly mistreated. Rest and ibuprofen quiet the symptom for a few days, but if a joint isn't moving or a disc is loaded unevenly, the pain keeps coming back.

Sciatica
Sciatica isn't a diagnosis, it's a description: pain following the sciatic nerve from the low back into the buttock, thigh, calf or foot. Getting rid of it depends entirely on finding what's compressing or irritating that nerve, and there are several very different answers.

Herniated & Bulging Discs
A herniated disc sounds like a sentence — it usually isn't. Most disc injuries respond well to unloading the disc, restoring segmental motion and rebuilding the support around it. Surgery is a last resort, not the first stop.

Neck Pain
Neck pain rarely stays in the neck. It spreads into the shoulders, creeps up the back of the skull and shows up as headaches by mid-afternoon. The good news: the cervical spine responds quickly once the right segment starts moving again.

Questions
First responders: common questions
I work rotating shifts. How do I schedule?
Submit the form and pick from the times available at your clinic — reschedules are easy if a shift changes.
Are volunteer firefighters included?
Yes. Volunteer and paid-on-call departments count.
Who qualifies?
Anyone who is part of the community group we're currently featuring. Each month recognizes a different profession or role. Both new patients and existing Back To Health patients from that group are welcome to participate.
What does the visit cost?
New patients in the honored group get our $56 New Patient Special — consultation and exam, digital X-rays if clinically needed, and your report of findings. That's it. No deposit, no hidden fees, and nothing due before you arrive.
Is there a deposit?
No. There is no deposit and no prepayment. You pay $56 at the clinic on the day of your visit.
Can I nominate someone?
Yes — and we love when people do. Use the Nominate Someone form to tell us about a coworker, friend, or family member who deserves to be recognized. We'll reach out gently and let them decide if it's right for them.
Can I nominate myself?
Absolutely. If you're part of the group we're currently honoring, just complete the reservation form.
How do I reserve a spot?
Complete the short reservation form and choose the clinic closest to you. You'll be sent straight to that clinic's online scheduling page to pick your time, and our team will confirm.
