Conditions we treat
Slip & Fall Injury Treatment in Zeeland, Portage & Muskegon
Michigan ice and wet floors send people to us every winter. We evaluate and treat fall injuries to the spine, hips, shoulders and wrists.
Falls load the body in ways it never trains for — a hand thrown out to catch you, a tailbone landing, a head snapping back. West Michigan winters make this our busiest injury category from December through March.
Symptoms we hear about
- Low back, tailbone or hip pain after landing
- Neck pain or headaches when the head jolted on impact
- Wrist, elbow or shoulder pain from catching yourself
- Bruising with deep aching that worsens over a couple of days
- Fear or hesitation with walking, stairs or ice
What's usually driving it
Impact force travels through the body along the path of the landing. A hand-first fall drives force through wrist, elbow, shoulder and into the neck; a tailbone landing compresses the sacrum, SI joints and lumbar discs. Muscles clamp down protectively, and if the joints stay locked after the bruising fades, pain persists long after the visible injury is gone.
How we treat slip & fall injuries
- 01Full exam of the impact chain, not just the sorest spot, with fracture screening and imaging referral as needed
- 02Gentle early-phase care — mobilization, electrical stimulation, soft tissue work
- 03Specific adjusting of the spinal and extremity joints locked by the impact
- 04Decompression when a disc was compressed on landing
- 05Balance and confidence retraining, especially for older patients

FAQ
Slip & Fall Injuries: common questions
How do I know if something is broken?
Inability to bear weight, deformity, severe focal bone tenderness or dramatic swelling all warrant imaging. We screen for these and refer immediately when indicated.
It's been a few weeks and I'm still sore. Is that normal?
Common, but it means joints are still restricted. Bruising resolves in days; joint dysfunction persists until it's treated.
Can this affect an injury claim?
If the fall happened on someone else's property, documented care from a licensed provider matters. We document thoroughly regardless.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
No. You can book directly with any of our three clinics in Zeeland, Portage or Norton Shores (Muskegon). If we think you need imaging or another provider, we'll tell you and help coordinate it.
Do you take insurance?
We're in-network with most major plans and we verify your benefits before your first adjustment so there are no surprises. Cash and payment-plan options are available too — see our insurance and payment FAQs.
How soon can I get in?
Most new patients are seen within a few days, not weeks. Book online for the clinic closest to you or call and we'll find the first available exam slot.
