Conditions we treat
Post-Surgical Rehab Support in West Michigan
After back, knee, shoulder or hip surgery, the rest of the body needs attention too. We support recovery and address compensation patterns.
Surgery fixes a structure. It doesn't restore how you move, and it doesn't undo the months of limping, guarding and compensating that came before it. That's the gap we fill, alongside your surgeon and physical therapist.
Symptoms we hear about
- Pain in a different area than the one that was operated on
- Persistent stiffness above or below the surgical site
- Limping or asymmetry that hasn't resolved with time
- Low back or hip pain after a knee or ankle surgery
- Feeling stronger but still not moving normally
What's usually driving it
Compensation patterns outlive the problem that caused them. If you limped for a year before a knee replacement, your hip, pelvis and low back adapted to that gait — and they don't spontaneously readapt afterward. Scar tissue around the surgical site also limits motion, and the neighboring joints take up the slack.
How we treat post-surgical rehab support
- 01Whole-chain assessment of movement and compensation, cleared with your surgeon's restrictions
- 02Adjusting and mobilization of the joints above and below the surgical site
- 03Soft tissue and instrument-assisted work on scar tissue and guarded muscle, once healed enough
- 04Gait retraining and progressive strengthening
- 05Coordination with your surgeon and PT rather than duplicating their work
What your first visit looks like
Three steps, no guessing
01
Exam & history
A real evaluation — orthopedic, neurological and movement testing — so we know exactly what's generating your symptoms.
02
Report of findings
We tell you what we found, whether we can help, how long it should take, and what it costs. No open-ended plans.
03
Treat & rebuild
Adjustments plus the therapies your case actually needs, followed by the rehab that keeps it from coming back.
FAQ
Post-Surgical Rehab Support: common questions
How long after surgery can I start?
It depends entirely on the procedure and your surgeon's protocol. We ask for their clearance and work within it — often we can address the uninvolved areas much earlier than the surgical site.
Will you adjust near a fusion or implant?
Never through the hardware. We adjust the mobile segments above and below, which are the ones absorbing the extra motion and typically the ones hurting.
Is this instead of physical therapy?
No — it complements it. PT handles the surgical site protocol; we handle joint restriction and compensation across the rest of the body.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
No. You can book directly with any of our three clinics in Zeeland, Portage or Norton Shores (Muskegon). If we think you need imaging or another provider, we'll tell you and help coordinate it.
Do you take insurance?
We're in-network with most major plans and we verify your benefits before your first adjustment so there are no surprises. Cash and payment-plan options are available too — see our insurance and payment FAQs.
How soon can I get in?
Most new patients are seen within a few days, not weeks. Book online for the clinic closest to you or call and we'll find the first available exam slot.
