Conditions we treat
Knee Pain Treatment in Zeeland, Portage & Muskegon
Knee pain on stairs, squats or after runs. We treat the knee plus the hip and foot mechanics loading it — including SoftWave shockwave therapy.
The knee is a hinge caught between two joints that rotate: the hip above and the foot below. When either one misbehaves, the knee absorbs the difference. That's why treating only the knee so often fails.
Symptoms we hear about
- Pain around or under the kneecap, worse on stairs and hills
- Aching after sitting for a long time, easing once you move
- Swelling or stiffness the day after activity
- Grinding, catching or a feeling of instability
- Pain along the inner or outer joint line
What's usually driving it
Weak hip control lets the thigh rotate inward during every step, dragging the kneecap off its track. A flat or stiff foot does the same thing from below. The result is uneven pressure across the joint surfaces and the tendons around them — mechanical, gradual and very treatable once the source is found.
How we treat knee pain
- 01Movement screen of the knee, hip and foot, including squat and single-leg testing
- 02Knee, ankle, hip and pelvis adjusting where motion is restricted
- 03SoftWave shockwave therapy for chronic patellar or quad tendon pain
- 04Soft tissue therapy for the quads, IT band, hamstrings and calves
- 05Hip and quad strengthening plus taping to offload the kneecap while it settles

FAQ
Knee Pain: common questions
I was told it's arthritis and there's nothing to do. True?
Arthritis on imaging is very common and poorly correlated with pain. Improving the mechanics around an arthritic knee routinely reduces symptoms substantially.
Should I stop running or squatting?
Usually we modify rather than stop — depth, volume, surface and cadence. Full rest deconditions the exact muscles the knee needs.
When do I need an MRI?
If your knee locks, gives way, or swelled dramatically within hours of a twisting injury, we refer for imaging to rule out a meniscus or ligament tear.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
No. You can book directly with any of our three clinics in Zeeland, Portage or Norton Shores (Muskegon). If we think you need imaging or another provider, we'll tell you and help coordinate it.
Do you take insurance?
We're in-network with most major plans and we verify your benefits before your first adjustment so there are no surprises. Cash and payment-plan options are available too — see our insurance and payment FAQs.
How soon can I get in?
Most new patients are seen within a few days, not weeks. Book online for the clinic closest to you or call and we'll find the first available exam slot.
