Tendinitis & Tendinopathy Treatment in West Michigan

Tendon pain that rest won't fix. We use SoftWave shockwave therapy, soft tissue work and progressive loading at all three West Michigan clinics.

Tendinitis implies inflammation, but most tendon pain lasting more than a few weeks isn't inflamed — it's degenerative. That single distinction explains why so many people cycle through rest and anti-inflammatories for a year with no lasting progress.

Symptoms we hear about

  • Pain localized to a tendon — shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee or heel
  • Stiff and painful to start, warms up with activity, aches badly afterward
  • Tender to press on a specific spot
  • Thickening you can feel in the tendon
  • Symptoms returning immediately when you resume normal activity

What's usually driving it

Tendons remodel in response to load, slowly. When load outpaces repair — a training jump, a new job task, years of the same repetitive motion — collagen becomes disorganized and blood supply drops. Without a stimulus to restart repair, the tissue can stay in that state indefinitely.

How we treat tendinitis & tendinopathy

  1. 01Diagnosis of the specific tendon and stage — reactive versus degenerative
  2. 02SoftWave shockwave therapy to trigger a healing response in stalled tendon tissue
  3. 03Instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy and myofascial release around the tendon
  4. 04Adjusting the joints whose restriction is increasing tendon load
  5. 05Progressive loading — isometrics, then eccentrics, then heavy slow resistance

What your first visit looks like

Three steps, no guessing

01

Exam & history

A real evaluation — orthopedic, neurological and movement testing — so we know exactly what's generating your symptoms.

02

Report of findings

We tell you what we found, whether we can help, how long it should take, and what it costs. No open-ended plans.

03

Treat & rebuild

Adjustments plus the therapies your case actually needs, followed by the rehab that keeps it from coming back.

FAQ

Tendinitis & Tendinopathy: common questions

Why does rest stop working?

Rest lowers pain by lowering load, but the tendon gets weaker in the meantime. When you resume activity, a weaker tendon fails at a lower threshold than before.

Do cortisone shots help?

They can reduce pain in the short term, but repeated injections weaken tendon tissue. We generally prefer to build the tendon up rather than quiet it down.

How long is tendon rehab?

Plan on eight to twelve weeks for a chronic tendon. Shockwave often shortens that, and pain typically improves well before the tendon is fully rebuilt.

Do I need a referral to be seen?

No. You can book directly with any of our three clinics in Zeeland, Portage or Norton Shores (Muskegon). If we think you need imaging or another provider, we'll tell you and help coordinate it.

Do you take insurance?

We're in-network with most major plans and we verify your benefits before your first adjustment so there are no surprises. Cash and payment-plan options are available too — see our insurance and payment FAQs.

How soon can I get in?

Most new patients are seen within a few days, not weeks. Book online for the clinic closest to you or call and we'll find the first available exam slot.
